Transcending Liszt Volume 1 is a heartfelt tribute to Franz Liszt. The trio breathes new life into his works, blending modern harmonies and hip grooves while preserving their essence. The album features adventurous improvisations and a beautiful mix of styles, making it a perfect example of what we like to call Universal Crossover Music.

This album features four compositions: two recompositions by Jonas and two by Paul. Hungarian Rhapsody No.2, for instance, introduces a Brazilian essence, merging festivity with virtuosity. Our distinctive use of unconventional time signatures, such as in Liebestraum, presents classical themes in unique rhythmic contexts. Jonas, inspired by the word ‘Traum’, crafts an engaging atmosphere, expertly performed by the trio. Vallée d’Obermann incorporates Afro-Cuban influences while maintaining Liszt’s virtuosity, ensuring the piece’s intrinsic dynamism. Ave Maria, reflecting Liszt’s religious sentiments, demonstrates that 19th-century sacred music can be compellingly executed by a modern jazz trio.
